The Friendship Cup is
a unique concept for South Florida, and is primarily inspired and modeled
on the huge success of the DLF Indian Premier League T20. Its primary
aim being to bring all our various Indian Associations together on a
common platform - the sports we love! Make our own fun & excitement
and relive our cricketing days!
"thefriendshipcup"
is a non-profit organization. One of the many aims of thefriendshipcup
organization is to sponsor Indian "youth cricket programs"
and such.
“thefriendshipcup” will
be funded by monies that come in from individuals / corporate / small
business sponsors and the Associations involved & the participating
and attending public.
Cricket - this first
year, only four associations were invited namely IRCC, SAF, PASF &
SCOF. We hope that this event will be a huge success and become an annual
fixture with many other Associations joining us the next year – 2010.
If there is interest
amongst the Associations - we plan to have Tennis & Golf later in
2009.
We wish all the teams
the best of luck - may the best team win! Go get them!

Calling all cricket and
fun lovers:
As Sindhis we’ve earned the reputation of being globetrotters and
fun lovers, so here’s the perfect opportunity to be true to our salt.
In the land of b-ball, here’s a day dedicated to our favorite sport:
Cricket. On14th March 2009, we will be participating in The Friendship
Cup played between four associations namely, the Punjabi and Sindhi
Associations, the Indian Religious and Cultural Center and Samunder
Club of Florida.
The event not only provides a common platform for different generations,
but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Bring your
family, friends and your loud cheery voices. May the best team win!
About The Sindhi Association:
The Sindhi Association of Florida was founded over 20 years ago by a
group of individuals who desired to perpetuate the rich repertoire of
their culture in their new homeland. Through the years, the SAF has
proudly organized different events that not only entertain its members,
but also pass on the torch of culture and tradition to the younger generation.
Events include Holi, Cheti Chand (the Sindhi New Year), and our most
successful extravaganza of the year: The Children’s Diwali Show. The
best part of this show is that it also involves sister regional associations
and celebrates the spirit of togetherness forming a poignant reflection
of our country.
It
is a great pleasure to be part of the first Friendship Cup. We look
forward to teaching the Samundar
Club of Florida, Punjabi and Sindhi Association how to play cricket.
We have been around since 1977, so you can imagine we have a few ripe
oldies, which have been known to lift a bat in their time. Of course,
you will also be able to see our young blood out there too.
We would like
to invite you to visit our website at www.irccflorida.com to learn about
us. Our primary mission is to serve
the South Florida Indian community in preserving and promote our rich
heritage and culture among those who have made America their home. We hold events to celebrate Holi, Diwali,
Navratri, Raksha Bandan, Republic Day (Taste of India festival) and
Indian Idol. So
you are all more than welcome to join us. For today, may the best team
win, though I do expect the first engraving on the cup to be I.R.C.C.
’09.
Have a great time,
Milan Khakhria, President IRCC.

Hi Cricket
fans of South Florida,
On March 14,
2009, all roads will be leading to Central Broward Regional Park in
Lauderhill, Florida . Why! You may ask? In case you have not heard,
it is the location of the cricket “Friendship Cup” that will
be played between four associations namely, the Punjabi and Sindhi Associations,
the Indian Religious and Cultural Center and Samunder Club of Florida
(SCOF).
SCOF was founded
in 2006 when a group of beached salt-crusted seafarers were sipping
their good old rum and whiskey and decided that they needed an avenue
to continue sharing their Sea Stories. The main purpose of SCOF is to
promote public recognition of the important contribution being made
by the Indian Maritime Professionals to the Marine Industry and to afford
facilities for their advancement in the knowledge of their profession.
You can learn more about the activities of our organization at samunderclubflorida.org.
The quote by
the great Martin Luther King Jr. sums up our organization very well
“We may have all come on different
ships, but we're in the same boat now”.
As you know
there are no cricket fields in the ocean. However, I ask that you do
not underestimate the “Hum Shippies Florida Ke Spirit”. If you have
not witnessed this before, I strongly urge you to be there. So come
along, bring the family and friends and cheer your favorite team.
Go SCOF!
